Join us for one of our Spring and Fall Workshops packed with fun, friendship and learning - along with plenty of our famous hospitality.
Our Buckhorn area is part of the Kawarthas Lakes region, meaning land of bright and shining waters in the Ojibwa language. The forests, lakes, granite and limestone rock, and wildlife, have been an inspiration to artists for many years.
Our instructors' art can be found in galleries across Ontario and further afield. Some are in corporate, public and private collections. More details of their works and their workshop programmes are available upon request.
Whether you are a beginner or intermediate artist, they look forward to sharing their expertise with you in a warm and friendly small group setting of 5 - 12 students.
Sandy is a self-taught sculptor who has been teaching for over 30 years. He refuses to believe in the idea of special talents being needed to carve.
Take a look at Sandy's website.
The urge create is inherent within all of us.
His classes have a very congenial, cohesive atmosphere. Great carvings have been completed by students who thought they never could carve.
This course will provide a general introduction to carving soapstone.
You will develop a knowledge of the material, the tools, the safe handling of them, and the methods used to complete a carving. Beginning with a study of the properties of the stone, you will learn to produce a simple piece - a loon - and progress to making a sculpture of your choice.
The development of your own personal style will be encouraged.
The soapstone for the learning piece and the use of tools are included in the cost of the course. You will need to purchase additional stone from Sandy for the other projects that you wish to carve. Tools will be for sale.
